We are located in Lafayette  on the NORTH side of Hwy 24 just 22 miles east of San Francisco convenient to all of Alameda and Contra Costa County.  We are across the highway from the Lafayette Reservoir.  The offramp can be confusing - coming from Walnut Creek the exit says Upper Happy Valley, coming from Oakland the exit says Mt Diablo Blvd.    We are down the road from the Bentley School.  Once you turn on to Pine Lane, drive past the first house on the right, the one with the lawn and decorative wrought iron fence, and turn right just past that house.  Then you are on Howard Hills Road.  Follow it to the end, it dead ends into a newish concrete driveway (South Acres Road) that takes you into the Pet Ranch parking lot.

We have been here for 80 years and are the oldest continuously operating business in Lafayette.
The original kennel sat near the location of the Veterans Center in Lafayette until the State of California declared eniment domain in the 1930's to expand what was then the road through the valley.  Juanita Waite, the original owner, then purchased 36 acres from Henry J. Kaiser in 1942 and built the first structure on the property.  The current facility was built in 1956.  Juanita bred and trained English Springer Spaniels, Cavaliers, and English Cockers for both show and field.
When the AKC licensed English Springers for field trials in 1956, the first three field trial champions were Waiterock Springers.  Her Saturday morning gun dog class was discontinued in 1968 when the City of Lafayette incorporated as it became illegal to discharge firearms within City limits.  She bred pheasant and ducks for her classes and also ran cattle on the property.  When the current owners purchased the property in 1989 it came with several head of Angus who thought it was fun to knock down the fence and play on Hwy 24.
Someday we'll write a book about all this.

Our legacy continues today with outstanding pet care as well as breeding and showing dogs.  This time, though, it's Norwich Terriers.  Our current champ is Gold Grand Champion Waiterock Jack Falstaff who has won three AKC Invitationals (2010, 2011, 2012)  the Norwich Terrier Club of America National Specialty (2011) and Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club (2011). Whew.
We're not done yet, he's only 4 years old!    Watch for future pages showcasing our dogs.  Puppies available occasionally to fabulous local homes.
